Some people with SCT have been shown to be more likely than those without SCT to experience heat stroke and muscle breakdown when doing intense exercise, such as competitive sports or military training under unfavorable temperatures( very high or low) or conditions.
Studies have shown that the chance of this problem can be reduced by avoiding dehydration and getting too hot during training.
People with SCT who participate in competitive or team sports (i.e. student athletes) should be careful when doing training or conditioning activities. BE AWARE OF RhabdomyolysIs
Normally, a person inherits two genes (one from each parent) that produce beta-globin, a protein needed to produce normal hemoglobin (hemoglobin A). A person with sickle cell trait inherits one normal beta-globin gene (hemoglobin A) and one defective gene (hemoglobin S).
Primarily those of African heritage, but also those of Arabian, Asian, Caribbean, Indian, Hispanic, Mediterranean, and South and Central American ancestry.
All bloodlines can be affected. It's a Global Issue.
Sickle Cell Trait: They say 1 out of every 10 people of African decenst carries the sickle cell trait.
The person is carrying the defective gene, HbS, but also has some normal hemoglobin, HbA. This is referred to as HbAS.
